Living in Sydney as an AFL supporter, or fanatic, and having to put up with the NRL media tripe… honestly! Today’s Sydney Daily Telegraph reader survey has prompted me to vent my spleen and share some of it with you.

I grew up in western Sydney, following rugby league because that is what one did. However, in the late ’60s I would on occasion tune into Channel 7’s VFL coverage on a Saturday afternoon. Maybe it was coincidence, but it seemed that every week I watched Collingwood were participating and Peter McKenna was kicking a bagful. I had found myself a hero from somewhere called Melbourne (it seemed so far away, as I had never ventured very far outside of Sydney). Along with the fact that my first girlfriend’s name was Colleen Wood, it was only natural that I would become a Pies Fan, albeit in a limited sense in those early days. Read the rest of this entry »
