Thank you for this post, John. Interested persons should be aware that this event is being held under the umbrella of ASSH (SA) and is thus being held in Adelaide.

  2. Colin Ritchie says

Bernard, post has been updated and includes the information the event takes place in Adelaide. Col.

  3. Fascinating stuff. Would joining ASSH get me a copy of the presentation after its delivery? The 1936 Hitler Berlin Olympics has always fascinated me.
Bobby Jones the great amateur who retired after winning the Grand Slam in 1930 attended as a spectator. He was a wealthy southern lawyer, and there is so much hagiography that it’s hard to find much about him outside of golf. Jones served overseas in WW2 so he did serve bravely once the reality of the Nazis was known,
Golf was an exhibition sport in 1936 over 2 days with 2 man teams from England, France and Germany. With the Germans leading after Day One, Hitler was driving out next day to present the trophy but turned around when news came through of the Germans wilting under pressure.

  4. Bernard Whimpress says

A pity you’re not here Peter. A fascinating story about Bobby Jones. Send me an email the day after to remind me.

  5. Bernard Whimpress says

    Thanks Colin
